Advanced Environmental Assessment (Computer Lab I & II)

In Computer Lab I (1 ECTS), different tools and software used for environmental assessments, such as LCA are introduced. The students will have hands-on exercises in the computer rooms and will gain basic knowledge on how to apply the software and other resources in practice. In Computer Lab II (2 ECTS), projects are created around a complete but simplified LCA study, where the students will learn how to answer a given question with target-oriented methodologies using various software programs, introduced in Computer Lab I, and data sources for environmental assessment.

Prerequisite: Enrolment in Advanced Environmental Assessments course in parallel or in advance.

Note: While Computer Lab I serves as a prerequisite for Computer Lab II, enrolling in both during the same semester is not only possible but also recommended.

Note for Environmental Engineering students:
If the ESD module is part of your major or chosen as an elective, Computer Lab II is incorporated into the Experimental and Computer Laboratory (ESD Module). Alternatively, Computer Lab II is available as an independent course outside of the Experimental and Computer Laboratory if it has not been previously taken in that setting.

Goals

Become acquainted with utilizing various software programs for environmental assessment to perform a Life Cycle Assessment and learn how to address the challenges when analyzing a complex system with available data and software limitations.
