Plastic food packaging has problems with chemicals - but some other advantages

ESD researcher Helene Wiesinger gave a public lecture (in German) on the advantages and disadvantages of plastic food packaging at the Treffpunkt Science City, ETH Zurich’s public science programme.

What is the plastic packaging actually made of? Usually only one "main ingredient" - the polymer - is indicated. Which additives can additionally be in the protective cover? Which are harmful, migrate into the food and perhaps even accumulate in humans? Is it best to buy broccoli, cucumbers or meat unpackaged?
